The Black American Dream with Blair Imani and Rachelle Baker

The IOP welcomes historian and author Blair Imani and illustrator Rachelle Baker to speak on their new book, Making Our Way Home: The Great Migration and the Black American Dream. Making Our Way Home is an illustrated history of the Great Migration – the twentieth-century movement of more than six million African-Americans out of the South and into cities across the North, Midwest, and West. Tracing the experiences of figures such as James Baldwin, Fannie Lou Hamer, and El Hajj Malik El Shabazz (Malcolm X), Making Our Way is a radical distillation of the regional, national, and global effects of the Great Migration on culture and society.
