Nurses’ Relaxation and Renewal through the Arts

2020 has been declared the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife” by the World Health Organization (WHO) and it is also the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. This exhibition is made possible through the support of the Hektoen Nurses and the Humanities and the Hektoen International Journal of Medical Humanities. Nurses, nursing students, and nursing retirees were invited to submit pictures of a wide variety of artistic talents including drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, collage, ceramics, sculpture, poetry, short prose, photography, fiber arts (embroidery, crochet, crewel, knitting, needlepoint), glass, jewelry, music, dance (performance/composition), theater (performance/playwriting/production), and other artistic endeavors that engage nurses in relaxation and renewal of their energies.
